The Vilamoura marina is packed during the holiday season, if you planning to make a visit to Akvavit, I do suggest to make a booking before your arrival. This restaurant is a bit on the pricey side, but offers excellent service and they truly make you feel like royalty. I highly recommend this restaurant if you are wanting to romance your partner. That being said, I hope I can get a positive agreement from a couple that’s willing to explore my suggestion. A romantic picture from their outside terrace overlooking the beautiful marina.
I ordered the cataplana with succulent pork, prawns, mussels, clams and a whole lot of delicious spicy sauce. the server dished up for me my first potion from the cataplana, and then return to dish me a second helping from the catapalna when my plate was nearly empty. Your second portion is kept warm and sealed in the cataplana while you are enjoying your first portion. Talk about feeling really special.
As your eyes see this picture above, I am sure your mouth is starting to water. I don’t have words to express the infusion of explosive tasty sensations that your palate experiences on your first bite. Every time I look at this dish my mouth starts to water and I desire to return. I do confess I am a regular, and when I feel like eating a cataplana this is my spot. I have eaten a few different cataplana’s from other restaurants and there have been good one’s, but I must say nothing like this one!
I ordered this Superior Pacheca red wine from the Douro region. This wine is a very good quality wine, I do recommend tying it on your visit if you enjoy red wine. See the information chart below for more information on this wine.
They do have a bar “The Capitan’s Bar,” so if you are waiting to be seated at your table, you can order from the bar, or maybe you are just wanting drinks from the bar.
My dessert was a rich smooth full cream ice cream, of vanilla and chocolate helpings, with a leaf wafer on top very well presented and soothing to my palate after my spicy cataplana.
I have given Akvavit an overall 9 as they well deserve this rating from me, their service is impeccable, presentation delightful and food quality of an utmost culinary standard.
