Alxama is a Madeira style restaurant situated in the heart of Quarteira, they invite you on an authentic culinary journey from awarded chefs that will prepare for you sizzling prime cuts to satisfy any palate. To start off my dinning journey at Alxama, my server Ricardo paired a glass of Al-Ria red wine from the Algarve region, he suggested it would compliment my appetizer of broa, with grilled cheese. The broa is a type of corn and rye bread traditionally made in Portugal. Ricardo served me this grilled Brazilian white cheese on a skewer to enjoy with my broa, the cheese is very similar to halloumi cheese.
Then came sausages served on a skewer! All the tables are fitted with skewer stands so as they bring your meats to your table, they then clip the meats onto the stand and place a plate under the meats to catch the fat drippings, then using your knife and fork you slide the meats off the skewer onto your plate to enjoy. The sausages were very juicy, succulent, sizzling hot, and tasty, I combined my grilled Brazilian cheese, with the sausage, on my broa bread, I must say a very tasty combination indeed!
My next dish was lamb chops on a skewer grilled to absolute perfection and was perfectly paired with a glass of Cartuxa red wine from the Evora region, Portugal. A top quality red wine very rich with oak notes, I also picked up buttery vanilla notes.
My final selection of meats was rib-eye steak on a skewer served with sweet potato chips and a fresh salad. My rib-eye steak was grilled to perfection, tender, extremely succulent with woody flavors from the grill. All of Alxama’s meats are grilled on an open wooden griller as seen in picture below, infusing the woody taste into all your meets served.
My gourmet dessert Don Rodrigo, is a traditional Portuguese dessert very sweet served with crumble and strawberries a fully satisfying finish to my dinning journey at Alxama.
Alxama have a big selection of wines to choose from Algarve, Douro, and Alentejo regions.
Alxama is a unique restaurant whereby they combine a butchery with their restaurant and one can order to take home your favorite selection of meats. they have some special imported meats as well.
My overall recommendation to Alxama restaurant is a 9 out of 10 very well deserved rating from me. I will start off with table service, that was absolutely impeccable service I received from them. they also have wooden fireplaces in their restaurant and that sets a nice cozy ambiance over those cold winter nights. I highly recommend Alxama restaurant for any occasion wining and dining, special date nights, or any other functions, as they are well equipped to cater for large parties.
