This Malo Wine form Monte do Lago Vineyard, was awarded the 10th Anniversary “SAKURA” Japan Women’s Wine Awards in 2023. Monte do Lago Vineyard, exports 80% of their wines that are harvested and only 20% are supplied in Portugal.
Monte do Lago vineyard, invites you to come and enjoy its absolute beautiful surroundings, away from the hustle and bustle of the city life. Staying here is like stepping into nature itself, with all the different animals that are around you, Sheep’s, pig’s, lama’s, and donkey’s just to mention some of them. The chickens that wander about your chalets really make you feel like you are staying at a farm yard. During the night here, looking up into the night sky gaze is absolutely breathtaking, with no city lights around you, many more stars are visible, then while you are sitting on your porch and looking up into the night sky, and sipping a glass of Malo wine….say no more!.
I made friends with this donkey, but when I had no food to give him, he wasn’t very impressed with our new found friendship.🤣😁
Some sheep are having a rest in the shade. All of the different meats that are served at Monte do Lago restaurant are from all their farm animals that live on the grounds. Dr Paulo told me a funny story of a dangerous ostrich that tried to attack him one day at the vineyard. The next day the ostrich was stripped and hung up to dry for ostrich bull tong.
For starters I enjoyed a delicious vegetable soup with Dr Paulo. All of Monte do Lago vegetables come from their vegetable garden, and all their cheeses are smooth and very rich in flavor, but they are from their neighbors farm next door. I really thought that the cheeses were goats’ milk cheese because of the richness in taste, but it turned out that the cheeses were actually cows’ milk cheese, the secret in the taste of these cheeses is in how they breed their cows, a new lesson learnt for me.
Our main meal was a spicy succulent black pork dish, with fried square potato chips, this was one of the tastiest pork dishes that I have eaten in a long time and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I had the honor of being the “chef” on the following day of my stay here. I prepared a starter for supper. My gourmet tomato cream soup, topped with freshly cut basil, and drizzled with coarse salt on top. This dish went down very well with Dr Paulo and his guests . I had requests for seconds and even thirds. I knew I had to make a big pot of soup and that this would happen 😜
These lovely luxury chalets with a small lounge, private porch and air condition rooms truly makes a comfortable and relaxing stay for the whole family. Each room also has a TV and Wi-Fi is provided.
Monte do Lago is for the whole family and lots of fun things for children to enjoy, while you enjoy the beautiful surroundings and relaxation.

Dr Paulo, invited me to join their night shift harvest team and I witnessed how amazing one of his harvesters worked. This harvester does the equivalent work of 35 workers that would take the workers 45 days to harvest. The harvester does all the same work in only 30 days.
On my final night stay, after having supper with Dr Paulo, and his guests. We all had some superb wine tastings, then Dr Paulo selected some of his special years harvested wines, and blessed me with them to add to my personal collection of wines. I will always be grateful for that, thank you Dr Paulo.
Amazing sunset on my final evening stay at Monte do Lago vineyard. I do highly recommend this vineyard to anyone who wants to enjoy nature and to breakaway from the city life. Only 200km from Vilamoura Algarve
